and it's been a private home for more than fifteen years with an understandably grumpy man who lives there surrounded by tramping tourists looking for Derek Jarman's Cottage. Poor sod, so much for peace and quiet in the country.

Getting the timing right with regards to the turing colour of the leaves, as well as being lucky with the weather is quite difficult to achieve.

Wow they really show the place beautifully, and the penultimate one really stands out with the striking blue of the sky against the yellow, love it. Been there quite a few times, love the 'caves' and folly's, but not noticed the tree in the said picture standing proud of it's surroundings. Another reason to return! Bowood House also has some lovely trees if you're around the area. - And cobwebby bark Usky if you pop in here again. Yeh, just took another look, last one's lovely too! Lovely!

Thanks Lois, I have been a bit distracted lately hence the lack of new posts. I haven't abandoned the blog so I will post in the future I just need to let the dust settle a bit for now.

PS Your "sea-thrift" is actually wild valerian; thrift is little cushions of tight leaves with lilac-pink flowers, about 10-15cms high.

Wonderfully evocative series of photos, Marc. I love "edgy" locations like this (I was born in Essex and went there occasionally as a child.)

I would highly recommend it to any aspiring landscape photog. Even though he works with large format, his discussion on how he approaches his subject is applicable to any format. A good source is at the bookdepository

Joe Cornish is truly excellent isn't he? It was seeing some of his photographs of rocks that got me taking images of bits of stone around the South Wales coast.

I must keep an eye open for that book...
