Well here it is (to great fanfare !!) my first blog entry. I had initially considered trying to do this blogging thing through my own web space. I did some quick research and discovered that my ISP (Plusnet) did in fact provide the MySQL and CGI facilities necessary. I even found a free piece of blogging software to edit the blog with. However, being a bear of little brain and short attention span, I quickly became overwhelmed by what was looking like a seriously steep learning curve in order to put it all together and make it work. So I bottled it and decided to use the free service offered by Blog.co.uk instead. After all I have little enough time to do photography as it is without having to undertake a degree in web and blog stuff. All I have to do now is figure out how to get it to look similar to my Photo Website (www.marcpaullphotography.co.uk). That may involve having to upgrade to the "Pro" package offered, but that's a decision for later.
Since this blog is supposed to be mostly about my photography, and to give me some practice using the blog tools here, I have posted an image below. This also appears on my Photo Website holding page. The image itself is a link to my website which is still under construction. My son, Graham, is doing all the clever web design stuff for me (there I go again always taking the path of least resistance!). In the meantime I am supposed to be "out there" with my camera taking images for a portfolio to submit to the Royal Photographic Society so that I can become a Licentiate of the RPS. Now that the weather here in the UK has improved a bit hopefully that particular project will make a little more progress.
This image was taken recently at Portland Bill Lighthouse at around 5:00 am. Portland Bill is favourite location of mine for photography. I was a little surprised to find that although I was there from about 4:30 am onwards there were two other lunatics with their cameras in the vicinity at the same time. At least I'm not alone in my insanity - although my wife wouldn't agree!
